Recently, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by someone whose work I have followed with admiration. Elisa James is a voice coach who operates online and in Australia. She has a fascinating background in performance, theatre, music and media, and uses her experience and education to help others develop better voice techniques for speech and for singing.
Over the course of my teaching career, I often found my voice tightening and pitching higher when I spoke too fast or too much. Turning to Elisa’s videos on Youtube, I learned a great deal about caring for and improving my voice from a holistic perspective. So, it was a great pleasure to be invited by Elisa to be interviewed on her own weekly live stream show called Expert Interview Series, hosted on her Youtube channel and Facebook group.
Our conversation focused on my own experience as a teacher and video creator, but also ranged into discussion of the overlap that exists between what she does and what I do. As an English-language teacher, voice is an important aspect of what I do, and as a voice coach, language is also a part of her work.
